PhD Position in Food Innovation and Health: Enhancing Bioavailability of Plant-Based Micronutrients

We are seeking a highly motivated PhD candidate to join our research team at Maastricht University. The successful candidate will be working on a project focused on enhancing the bioavailability of plant-based micronutrients.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and characterize a food innovation by encapsulating micronutrients in nanoparticles or alginate beads.
- Perform in vitro research using gastric, intestinal, and colonic epithelial cell lines and organoid models to investigate intestinal absorption.
- Use in vitro digestion models to determine the effect of the food matrix on the bioaccessibility of micronutrients.
- Write a project proposal and obtain medical ethical approval for a randomized controlled trial.
- Plan, coordinate, and perform a human lifestyle intervention study.
- Write high-quality papers for publication in international peer-reviewed journals.
- Complete a PhD thesis within 4 years.
- Master's degree in a relevant field, such as Biomedical Sciences, Medical Biotechnology, or Biomedical Engineering.
- Cell culture experience, preferably with culturing organoids.
- Experience in cell and molecular biological techniques, such as qPCR.
- Team player with excellent communication and organizational skills.
- Advanced skills in bio-statistics.
