The International Criminal Court is seeking a highly skilled Senior International Lawyer to join its team. As a key member of the Registry's Legal Office, you will play a vital role in delivering legal services and supporting the performance of the legal functions of the Registrar.

Salary: $120,000 - $150,000 per annum.

About the Role

We are looking for an exceptional lawyer with a strong background in international law, public international law, international criminal law, international administrative law, and international institutional law. You will be responsible for advising on matters of liability and international administrative law, providing legal advice to various committees and boards, and leading inter-organ working groups.

In this role, you will also assist in planning and implementing the LO annual programme of work, manage the day-to-day operations of the Section, including budget, reporting, statistics, and human resources, develop the operational framework for delivery of legal services, and supervise (associate) legal officers.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deputize in the absence of the Senior Legal Adviser, both on matters of substance and as Chief of Section;
  • Serve as the lead and supervisory lawyer in complex legal matters arising under public international law, international criminal law, international administrative law, and international institutional law affecting the Registry and the Court more broadly;
  • Advises on matters of liability and international administrative law;
  • Provide legal advice to and serve as (alternate) member, including as Chair, on various committees and boards;
  • Lead and participate in inter-organ working groups on matters within substantive and managerial fields of responsibility;
  • Assist in planning and implementing the LO annual programme of work;
  • Manage the day-to-day operations of the Section including budget, reporting, statistics, and human resources;
  • Develop the operational framework for delivery of legal services;
  • Manage and supervise (associate) legal officers;
  • Play a lead role in establishing and operationalising the Registry legal network;
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need to have a minimum of seven years of progressively responsible professional experience in a legal environment relevant to the work of the Court, and to the aforementioned duties and responsibilities. You must also have advanced university degree in law with specialisation in international law, bar admission or equivalent, and proficiency in either English or French and working knowledge of the other.
