Overview of the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Database Infrastructure Specialist to join our team at ARHS. This is an exciting opportunity for a professional with expertise in designing and implementing robust database systems.

About the Job

The successful candidate will be responsible for managing, maintaining, and securing our Microsoft SQL Server databases as well as other DBMSs including MariaDB, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, and Cassandra.

  • Database Administration: Perform daily tasks related to database administration, including deployment, configuration, patching, and upgrading database servers, management systems, and databases.
  • Virtual Server Configuration: Configure, patch, and upgrade virtual servers and operating systems underlying DBMSs, including Microsoft Windows Server.
  • Health Monitoring: Define, gather, and manage metrics for monitoring databases, operating systems, and servers to ensure they remain healthy. Check error logs, system events, database events, disk space, and storage events using monitoring tools like SCOM to identify, prevent, and resolve issues.
  • Security Management: Enforce data security and protection policies by managing security and database access, identifying, and auditing user access of sensitive databases in compliance with procedures and regulations.
  • Database Maintenance: Install, configure, schedule, and monitor database jobs for backups, integrity checks, index maintenance, update statistics, etc.
  • Backup and Recovery: Define, create, and schedule database backup plans and strategy, ensure restorability, integrate database-level backups with operating system-level backup systems like NetBackup, and manage data retention.
  • Performance Monitoring, Tuning, and Optimization: Define and gather critical performance metrics for DBMSs and OSs to ensure fast database performance using tools like SolarWinds DPA. Assess data access patterns and query plans for improving performance by tuning and optimizing database queries.
  • Business Continuity: Ensure meeting SLAs by configuring high availability and disaster recovery, defining, implementing, configuring, and monitoring technologies including AlwaysOn Availability Groups and Windows Server Failover Clusters.
  • Automation: Define, implement, schedule, and monitor scripts for automating repetitive, recurring tasks using PowerShell and Bash.
  • DevOps: Define, create, and implement DevOps pipelines for deploying database changes into production using Azure DevOps, FlyWay, and Puppet.
Requirements

To succeed in this role, you will need:

  • Bachelor's degree plus 10 years of relevant experience.
  • Working knowledge of English B2 or higher Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (self-assessment).
  • A minimum of 8 years of experience as an ICT consultant in large-scale enterprise environments, tasked with systems administration of mission-critical production systems.
  • A minimum of 6 years of experience in database administration with sensitive data in complex high-security environments.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in database administration with the following tools and technologies: MariaDB and/or MySQL, MySql Workbench, Maria Backup, Mysqlbinlog.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in database administration with the following technologies: PostgreSQL, pgAdmin, pgBackRest, Patroni.
Desirable Skills

While not required, experience in the following areas would be beneficial:

  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in database administration with technologies for high availability and disaster recovery, clustering solutions, data replication, Galera, MaxScale, WSFC.
  • Experience in database administration with the following technologies: MongoDB, Cassandra.
  • Experience in working with the following technologies: VMware virtualization, Containerization with Kubernetes.
  • Experience in database administration with the following technologies: Microsoft SQL Server, AlwaysOn Availability Groups.
  • Experience in working with tools and technologies for implementing business intelligence solutions including ETL, OLAP, Reporting.
  • Experience in database administration with all mentioned DBMSs and technologies for on-premise environments.
  • Experience in developing scripts and solutions for DevOps pipelines, automated deployment, database schema versioning and deployment, Puppet, Azure DevOps/TFS, FlyWay, Bash, PowerShell, TerraForm.
Salary

We offer a competitive salary range of $120,000 - $180,000 per year, depending on experience and qualifications.
