Position Overview
A postdoctoral research opportunity is available focusing on Serial Crystallography (SX), a cutting-edge technique for visualizing macromolecular interactions with light. This role involves conducting 'pump–probe' experiments, where a brief UV-Visible laser pulse excites chromophores in the target molecule, followed by an X-ray pulse that probes the resultant state at a defined delay. The objective is to correlate light-induced X-ray crystallographic electron densities with various reactions and excited-state phenomena. This research will delve into light-inducible proteins that play crucial roles in photosynthesis and photobiology, complemented by time-resolved spectroscopy techniques.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement a data processing pipeline for crystallographic datasets.
- Engage actively in the group's time-resolved serial crystallography experiments.
- Contribute to the organization and execution of serial crystallography experiments.
- Conduct SX experiments with a strong focus on data analysis.
- Explore the photo-regulatory and molecular responses of various proteins to light exposure.
- Integrate SX findings with time-resolved spectroscopy observations.
Candidate Profile
- PhD in physics, physical chemistry, biophysics, biochemistry, or related fields.
- Experience and knowledge in structural biology and serial crystallography, particularly in large data analysis.
- Proficiency in CrystFEL or DIALS data processing software is highly advantageous.
- Familiarity with Phenix and CCP4 software.
- Strong programming skills in Python or a similar language.
- Enthusiasm for working in a multidisciplinary research environment.
- Fluency in English is essential.
