Position Overview
We are currently expanding and are in search of certified Aircraft Fitters to enhance our Defence manufacturing operations.
As an Aircraft Fitter, you will execute essential tasks in strict adherence to established Work Instructions and Standard Operating Procedures, prioritizing safety for yourself and your colleagues.
Collaboration is key; thus, effective communication, adaptability, and willingness to work various shifts and overtime are crucial.
Your role will involve actively identifying safety issues, promptly reporting problems to your Team Leader, and proposing improvements (Kaizen).
Be part of a team committed to fostering a 'Great Place To Work' through a culture of continuous enhancement, safe practices, and open communication.
Your Team Leader will provide comprehensive support for your training and development.
Key Responsibilities
Typical duties include:
- Working on a diverse array of aircraft main and sub-assemblies, utilizing appropriate assembly techniques, tools, and fixtures in line with technical specifications.
- Interpreting and understanding technical drawings, processes, and procedures to ensure compliance with regulatory quality standards and customer requirements.
- Performing all tasks to the highest standards, adhering to established protocols, and promptly reporting any safety or quality issues to your Team Leader.
- Emphasizing a safety-first approach while adhering to all GKN Aerospace Health, Safety, and Environmental policies.
- Understanding and contributing to your team's key performance indicators related to People, Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cash, and Cost.
- Achieving certification at the Lean Foundation level and implementing at least one Kaizen initiative monthly.
- Supporting the team and Team Leader in problem-solving by sharing insights based on your experiences.
- Actively participating in team dynamics, promoting collective engagement.
- Contributing to a 'Great Place to Work' by exemplifying a safety-first mindset and a Kaizen approach.
- Holding yourself and your colleagues accountable to the principles of GKN Aerospace culture.
- Ensuring compliance with all legal and regulatory obligations.
Candidate Qualifications
Ideal candidates will possess:
- Proven experience as aircraft fitters, supported by evidence of a 2-4 year apprenticeship and/or relevant certifications, with the ability to interpret technical drawings and procedures.
- A strong sense of pride in workmanship, with a keen focus on quality.
- A collaborative spirit, eager to work within a high-performing team.
- Effective communication skills.
- A commitment to safety.
- Eligibility to work in the UK.
Important Note
This position requires UK National Security Vetting (UKNSV) Security clearance due to the nature of the responsibilities involved.
