Key Roles and Responsibilities

The Technical Specialist Hydrodynamics will play a pivotal role in Damen Naval’s Naval and Technology department. The primary focus will be on the hydrodynamic aspects of naval vessel design and performance. Key responsibilities will include:

  • Collaboration with design teams to optimize hydrodynamic performance during proposal and engineering phases
  • Conducting hydrodynamic simulations, model tests, and sea trials to ensure designs meet performance standards
  • Working with clients, suppliers, and research institutes to incorporate hydrodynamic insights into the design process
  • Gathering and analyzing operational data to validate and refine hydrodynamic performance and enhance future projects
  • Developing innovative methods and tools in collaboration with academic and research partners
  • Providing technical expertise on resistance, propulsion, manoeuvrability, seakeeping, and smoke simulations using specialized software packages
Requirements and Expectations

To excel in this role, candidates should possess the following qualifications and qualities:

  • Master degree in Naval Architecture or a related field, with at least five years of practical experience in hydrodynamics, focusing on proposal and engineering phases
  • Thorough understanding of fluid dynamics, particularly in complex naval projects
  • Experience working in complex project environments and with academic research, including the creation of new methods and tools
  • Effective communication skills, with the ability to interact with research institutes, universities, engineers, and project managers in the naval shipbuilding industry
  • Competencies: customer orientation, results and quality orientation, teamwork, creativity, initiative, and critical thinking
