Job Title: Freelance Field Interpreter

Job Summary:

We are seeking a Freelance Field Interpreter to provide consecutive interpretation services for the International Criminal Court. The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of the Court's mandate and operations, as well as excellent language skills in Cebuano and English.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide complete and accurate interpretation during missions to the field or in support of operations at Headquarters;
  • Use appropriate techniques and strategies to support consecutive interpretation;
  • Prepare glossaries of situation language terminology appropriate to the assigned tasks;
  • Perform other language tasks as required, for example sight translation tasks;
  • Work in accordance with the ethics and norms of the interpreting profession;

Requirements:

  • Language Proficiency: Mother tongue-speaker level proficiency in Cebuano and proficiency in English;
  • Education: University degree in modern foreign languages, linguistics, translation or interpretation;
  • Experience: Previous experience as an interpreter, particularly in community / public service settings;
  • Skills: Ability to work as part of a team, flexibility, basic computer and information technology skills;

What We Offer:

Accredited Field Interpreters will be placed in a pool and may be deployed as needed. Freelance Field Interpreters will be contracted on a freelance basis for the duration of the mission.

Working Conditions:

Mindful of the nature of the ICC's mandate and operations, freelance field interpreters must understand that the content of what is to be interpreted may on occasion risk being of an upsetting or disturbing nature.

Security Clearance:

Accreditation is subject to obtaining the necessary security clearance.
