To support our growth and strengthen our team, we currently have a vacancy in our Research department. The research team is part of the Research & Product Development team within Walraven Europe, a coordination centre where 85 colleagues work together. We are looking for a Mechanical Test Engineer (full-time) to join our team.

About the Role

In this role, you will be part of the Research Department and will support various disciplines such as Product Development, Product Management, Sales, Sourcing, and Production with the validation and testing of end products, concepts, components, or assemblies.

The Research Department performs testing in three different laboratory areas, where we conduct mechanical, corrosion, and fire tests according to our own and international guidelines and standards:

  • Mechanical Testing - Building and creating test set-ups for testing and performing tests on one of the two tensile test machines
  • Salt Spray Lab - Preparing test schedules, performing inspections, and delivering Salt Spray test reports
  • Fire Lab - Performing internal tests on our current or concept fire protection products

Responsibilities

As a Mechanical Test Engineer, your responsibilities will include:

  • Producing test results and communicating them to stakeholders through written test reports, offering advice and recommendations for possible improvements
  • Assisting in developing new test methods to test products that do not have current international standardized test methods
  • General maintenance and operation of our machines
  • Preparing test schedules and performing inspections
  • Building up test set-ups to specification, as well as clearing and dismantling
  • Performing tests independently
  • Assisting in performing testing according to standards as an observer or safety coordinator
  • Participating in testing at external locations, which may involve travel approximately 3 times per year
Requirements

We are looking for someone with a good working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel, basic reporting skills, practical ability to use hand and electric tools, familiarity with testing techniques or ability to quickly learn testing techniques, a "Technical" mindset with a broad knowledge of mechanics and/or chemistry, good troubleshooting skills, an analytic mindset able to see deviations from the expected result and report back, adaptability to perform well in many different functions, and fluency in English (Dutch is preferred)
