This role is designed for a duration of two years, focusing on advanced research in the domains of Machine Learning, Image Analysis, and Embedded Artificial Intelligence. The successful candidate will engage in various tasks including:
- Conducting research on the acquisition of plant imagery utilizing diverse camera technologies such as RGB, RGBI, multispectral, and hyperspectral.
- Assessing the significance of each imaging modality.
- Creating methodologies for classifying images of both healthy and stressed crops.
- Modifying models for effective deployment on multiple edge computing devices.
- Evaluating the performance of the final implementations.
This project involves collaboration with a wide range of academic and industrial partners, culminating in the demonstration of a product that meets the needs of industry stakeholders. The Faculty of Science and Engineering (FSE) hosts the Engineering and Technology Institute Groningen (ENTEG), which engages in a broad spectrum of engineering research, including mechanical engineering, electronic materials, MEMS, nanotechnology, control engineering, and robotics.
Research Collaboration
This postdoctoral project is a joint initiative between the Discrete Technology and Production Automation (DTPA) group and the Intelligent Systems Group. The Embedded AI/ML research focus within DTPA, led by Dr. Bahar Haghighat, is dedicated to developing machine learning solutions suitable for low-power, low-memory embedded devices.
Candidate Qualifications
- A PhD in Mathematics, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field with robust mathematical training.
- Demonstrated research excellence, evidenced by publications in international peer-reviewed journals and conferences, along with a relevant international network.
- A proactive, respectful, and innovative professional demeanor.
- Ability to work autonomously as well as collaboratively.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- High cross-cultural sensitivity and effective communication abilities.
- Proficiency in English; knowledge of Dutch is advantageous but not mandatory.
Employment Conditions
We offer a competitive salary in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities, which includes:
- A salary ranging from €3,877 to €5,090 gross per month, based on qualifications and experience.
- An annual holiday allowance of 8% of gross income.
- An end-of-year allowance of 8.3%.
- A position available for one year, with the possibility of extension.
