Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated PhD candidate to join our research team in the Department of Developmental Psychology and Clinical Child and Family Studies. The successful candidate will be involved in a PhD project that explores the development of ethnic prejudice and how to prevent ethnic discrimination early in life.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct cutting-edge scientific experiments in virtual reality to test how children's basic affective processes and deliberate cognitions shape their behaviour towards ethnic minorities.
  • Analyse data using R/SPSS and other statistical software.
  • Write scientific articles for publication in international peer-reviewed journals.
  • Present research findings at national and international conferences.
  • Recruit participants and conduct research at schools or the university.
Requirements
  • A Master's degree in psychology or a related field.
  • Solid experience in conducting and initiating innovative quantitative experimental research.
  • Excellent research and writing skills, as well as good written and oral command of the English language.
  • Proficiency in Dutch, as you will be interacting frequently with children (or willingness to learn Dutch within a year).
  • Affinity with and interest in the social development of children.
  • Perseverance, creativity, and a proactive attitude.
  • Strong organisational and planning skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal, social and communication skills, and the ability to work in a team.
What We Offer
  • A position for one year, with an extension to a total of four years upon a successful assessment in the first year.
  • A working week of 38 hours and a gross monthly salary between €2,770 and €3,539 in the case of full-time employment.
  • 8% holiday pay and 8.3% year-end bonus.
  • A pension scheme, partially paid parental leave and flexible terms of employment.
