We are seeking a highly motivated PhD candidate to join our team at the Amsterdam School of Communication Research (ASCoR) in the Faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences.
Job Description
This three-year PhD project aims to investigate the financial challenges facing journalism and potential strategies for safeguarding its vital position in democratic society. You will conduct empirical studies using different methodologies, including secondary analyses of existing data, in-depth interviews with journalistic professionals, and pre-registered vignette experiments to test the effectiveness of various strategies.
Responsibilities
Your key responsibilities include developing, conducting, and publishing research on the consequences of journalism's financial crisis, completing a PhD dissertation within the appointment period, contributing to the public debate about the business of journalism, presenting your work at national and international conferences, and teaching-related tasks in the Bachelor programme.
Required Skills and Qualifications
To be successful in this role, you should have a strong affinity with the topics, excel in research methods, and enjoy working together in a team. A research master's degree in communication science or a related social-science field is required, as well as a firm basis in and ideally experience with research methods and data analysis.
Benefits
We offer a highly competitive salary, ranging from €2,872 gross per month in the first year to €3,670 in the final year, based on full-time employment and in keeping with the Collective Labour Agreement of Dutch Universities. We also provide an extensive package of secondary benefits, including 8% holiday allowance and a year-end bonus of 8.3%.
Salary Estimate
We estimate the annual salary to be approximately €34,524 in the first year and €43,920 in the final year.
