We're seeking a skilled PHP Backend Developer to join our dynamic team at UltiMaker. As a key member of our development team, you'll be responsible for designing and implementing robust backend solutions to power our digital ecosystem. With a strong focus on performance, scalability, and reliability, you'll work closely with our front-end developers to design and implement APIs and backend services.

About the Role:

As a PHP Backend Developer at UltiMaker, you'll have the opportunity to work on a wide range of projects, from developing APIs to integrating data storage solutions. You'll leverage technologies like Docker, GitHub Actions, GCloud, Redis, and ElasticSearch to optimize our backend infrastructure and build advanced recommendation systems. Your contributions will directly impact our global community of 3D printing enthusiasts.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Collaborate with front-end developers to design and implement APIs and backend services.
  2. Dive into our existing codebase, making structural changes and improvements as needed.
  3. Utilize your knowledge of Docker, GitHub Actions, and GCloud to automate deployment and streamline development workflows.
  4. Leverage Redis and ElasticSearch to build advanced recommendation systems and enhance user experiences.
  5. Actively participate in agile ceremonies, including sprint planning, daily stand-ups, and retrospectives.
  6. Showcase your communication and teamwork skills, contributing to a positive and collaborative work environment.
  7. Embrace curiosity and a proactive mindset, asking constructive critical questions and driving continuous improvement.

Requirements:

  1. Solid experience with PHP and SQL, with a strong understanding of backend development principles.
  2. Familiarity with Docker, Git, and Jira, with experience in version control and issue tracking.
  3. Agile mindset with experience working in Scrum teams and collaborating with cross-functional teams.
  4. Strong problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to challenges.
  5. Knowledge of Redis and ElasticSearch, with experience building recommendation systems.
  6. Flexibility and adaptability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  7. Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively within a team.
  8. Willingness to dive into legacy code and make structural changes as needed.
  9. Ability to ask constructive critical questions regarding codebase, tooling, and way of working, and take action accordingly.

Bonus Points:

  1. Experience with React and webpack, with the ability to work on full-stack projects.
  2. Contributions to open-source projects or a strong GitHub profile showcasing your work.
  3. Python and Node.js knowledge, with the ability to work on diverse technology stacks.
  4. Experience with Google Cloud Platform (or any cloud hosting platform), redis or ElasticSearch.
