Position Overview
This internship focuses on the critical role of frequency selectivity in radar systems. The interference caused by spurious frequencies from higher order harmonics in radar front-end systems can significantly impact nearby systems. Traditional electronic filters may not suffice to achieve the necessary suppression levels when dealing with high power outputs in a transmitter chain. Frequency Selective Surfaces (FSS) represent a novel solution, utilizing engineered materials to enable frequency filtering at the radiation level, thereby manipulating the electromagnetic waves emitted by antennas.
Your Responsibilities
The primary objective of this project is to investigate an FSS solution that can be integrated into a radar system. This solution should exhibit a high rejection level of unwanted harmonics while minimally affecting the system's radiation performance, particularly in terms of gain and scanning range, and must be capable of handling very high levels of radiated power.
The Radar Technology Department comprises a dynamic and innovative team of approximately 60 professionals dedicated to the specification, development, and assessment of cutting-edge, high-performance MMICs, compact integrated RF subsystems, antennas, and front-end technologies. This department is pivotal in advancing groundbreaking radar systems and signal processing concepts across military, space, and civil sectors.
Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate is nearing completion of a degree in electrical engineering or a related field, possessing a strong background in applied electromagnetism and antenna technology. Proficiency in programming languages such as Matlab and/or Python is essential. We value a pragmatic approach and a focus on practical solutions.
