About the Position

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated researcher to join our team at TU Eindhoven's Data and AI cluster.

Job Description

The Uncertainty in Artificial Intelligence (UAI) group is a rapidly growing unit focused on developing foundational AI methods. Our research encompasses the design of new AI approaches, algorithm development, and tools to expand AI's capabilities and generalization abilities. Key areas of focus include robustness, safety, trust, reliability, tractability, scalability, interpretability, and explainability of AI.

We invite applications for a PhD position in Causality, with a specific research direction to be determined in collaboration with the successful candidate. Possible research topics include causality theory and application, causal probabilistic circuits, causal representation learning, causal explanations, causality and large language models, and counterfactual learning.

Requirements
  • Master's degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, or a related field.
  • Excellent analytical skills.
  • Excellent coding skills (e.g., Python, PyTorch, TensorFlow).
  • Excellent academic writing and presentation skills.
  • Proficiency in English (written and spoken).
  • Demonstrated desire to conduct excellent research and publish in high-quality conferences and journals.
  • Independent thinker and self-responsibility.
  • Ability and willingness to collaborate and work in teams.
  • Capability and interest in supporting teaching and co-supervising bachelor and master students.

  • Full-time employment for four years, with an intermediate evaluation after nine months. A 10% allocation for teaching tasks.
  • Salary and benefits, including a pension scheme, paid pregnancy and maternity leave, partially paid parental leave, according to the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities, scale P (min. €2,770 max. €3,539).
  • A year-end bonus of 8.3% and annual vacation pay of 8%.
