Research Fellowship in Enhanced Internet Routing Security
2 maanden geleden
As a researcher, you will engage in innovative studies aimed at improving the security of the Internet's routing framework, contributing to the initiative "User-driven Path Verification and Control for Inter-domain Networks" (UPIN). The primary objective of UPIN is to create and assess a scalable distributed architecture that empowers users to cryptographically authenticate and manage the pathways through which their data traverses the Internet. This includes considerations such as router-to-router connections and router characteristics (e.g., geographical location, operator, security standards, and manufacturer). UPIN addresses a significant contemporary challenge: the increasing lack of transparency for users regarding who handles their data and the routing processes involved, which poses risks to privacy and safety.
In your role, you will serve as the technical coordinator for UPIN, providing updates to the project leader. You will also collaborate with project partners, including academic institutions and industry stakeholders. Furthermore, you will work closely with Ph.D. candidates in the DACS group, who are also focused on routing security, exploring topics such as risk-based routing and transient routing hijacks.
This position is situated within the chair of Trusted Open Networking (TRON), which aims to enhance the security of Internet communications through measurement-based insights into its architecture and operations, as well as implementing control measures to mitigate risks. TRON advocates for open technologies and seeks to bridge the gap between scientific research and practical application.
The UPIN project is funded by the Netherlands Organization for Scientific Research (NWO) along with industry partners. More information can be provided upon request.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct pioneering research into novel routing methodologies and mechanisms that enhance understanding and control over the reliability of Internet pathways, particularly for critical applications.
- Develop and assess your concepts, potentially utilizing BIRD or the national P4-programmable network.
- Collaborate with service providers and other stakeholders to showcase the benefits of path verification functionalities.
- Present findings at relevant conferences and meetings.
- Publish research outcomes in scientific journals, workshops, and magazines.
- Contribute to educational initiatives related to your research area.
- Advocate for and represent UPIN in partnership with collaborators.
- Work closely with a team of three Ph.D. candidates in the DACS group.
- Assume the role of technical coordinator for UPIN, reporting to the project lead.
Candidate Profile:
- A highly motivated and passionate researcher.
- Possession of a Ph.D. in computer science or a related discipline.
- Demonstrated expertise in computer networks and network security.
- Interest in the concept of open strategic digital autonomy for Europe.
- A record of workshop and conference publications is essential.
- An independent thinker with a creative approach to problem-solving.
- Strong analytical and communication skills.
- Enjoyment of collaborative work within a team environment.
- Interest in teaching at the university level.
- Proficiency in English and a willingness to learn Dutch.
Our Offer:
- A full-time appointment for a maximum of two years within a stimulating academic environment.
- Competitive salary and benefits in accordance with the collective labor agreement for Dutch universities.
- Gross salary ranging from €3877 to €5090 per month, depending on experience and qualifications.
- Attractive benefits including an 8% holiday allowance, a year-end bonus of 8.3%, and a robust pension scheme.
- Flexibility to work partially from home.
- Access to campus sports facilities.
- A minimum of 232 leave hours for full-time employment, with additional leave hours based on actual working hours.
- Comprehensive support for research and opportunities for professional and personal development.
- Encouragement of responsibility and independence while fostering collaboration with colleagues and university staff.
- Family-friendly policies, including parental leave and career support for partners.
