Position Overview: Senior HVDC Engineering Consultant
In this role, you will engage in a variety of tasks across different project phases. During the feasibility stage, your expertise will be essential in selecting optimal parameters for HVDC systems, utilizing network and performance analyses. As you move into the specification phase for HVDC substations, you will outline the station layout, define the electro-mechanical configurations, select key equipment (such as transformers), and determine the necessary filter banks, ancillary devices, and control & protection systems.
Construction and Commissioning:
Throughout the construction and commissioning phases, you will oversee factory and site acceptance testing, ensuring the quality of all delivered products. Your role will involve direct interaction with clients, guaranteeing that project deliverables meet both technical specifications and economic objectives. Additionally, you will coordinate the efforts of junior engineers during project execution.
Required Qualifications:
· Strong foundational knowledge of electrical power systems and familiarity with common software tools for network modeling (e.g., PSCAD, ATP, EMTP-RV, PSSE, DigSilent or similar).
· Excellent communication skills in Dutch and English, both written and verbal. Proficiency in additional languages, particularly German or French, is advantageous.
· A blend of persistence, empathy, and strong interpersonal skills to facilitate extensive customer interactions.
· Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team environment.
· A degree in Electrical Engineering, ideally with a focus on Energy Engineering at the BSc or MSc level.
· Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience.
Expertise Required:
· Effective optimization of both internal and external resources.
· Proficient in project coordination and scheduling.
· Flexibility to lead consultancy efforts in diverse international settings.
· Capability to manage complex and challenging projects.
Technical Proficiencies:
· Comprehensive understanding of main HVDC components (transformers, breakers, disconnectors, filters, bushings, switchgears, smoothing reactors, and surge arresters).
· Proficiency in software tools for network modeling (e.g., PSSE, PSCAD, ATP, DigSilent or equivalent, ETAP).
· Knowledge of applicable standards for Converter Stations.
