About this project
The performance of the adhesive layer in a ceramic multi-layer armor system is crucial for determining single- and multi-hit ballistic protection. While research on adhesive layers in ballistic armor is limited, controlled surface modifications can improve the armor's stopping power. These modifications involve chemical or morphological treatments that enhance bonding strength and ballistic protection.
Your role
This project will investigate the optimal surface preparation techniques for adhesive bonding of a ceramic front plate to a backing plate, using adhesives currently utilized in armor systems. You will characterize the adhesive bond strength and ballistic performance at TNO's state-of-the-art facilities.
Requirements
You are in the final stages of your master's degree in physics, mechanical engineering, or a related field, with experience in material science, surface manipulation, or adhesive bond lines. You should be able to conduct experimental research and communicate your findings effectively.
