We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled PhD candidate and junior system administrator to join our team at the Faculty of Science, Universiteit Leiden. The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting original research in the field of Computer Systems, focusing on software optimization and compiler techniques.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct research in software optimization and compiler techniques, with a focus on developing innovative solutions to complex problems.
- Publish scientific work in peer-reviewed conference proceedings and journals, and present at top-tier international conferences.
- Pursue and complete a PhD thesis within the appointed duration of six years.
- Assist the LIACS system administrator in managing the LIACS research infrastructure, including tasks such as data stewardship, Linux system maintenance, and network configuration.
- Recently completed (or soon to be completed) MSc degree in Computer Science with specialization in Parallel and Distributed Computing, High Performance Computing, or Computer Systems, with strong performance in computer systems courses.
- Strong interest in solving complex scientific problems and ability to translate abstract thoughts and ideas into concrete implementations.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to work effectively with researchers, system administrators, and students.
- Fluent written and spoken English language skills.
- Excellent programming and debugging skills in C++ and Python, with experience in Linux and basic Linux system administration.
- Good understanding of computer networking, including TCP/IP, VLANs, and routing.
We offer a full-time position for initially one year, with the possibility of extension for a further five years. The salary ranges from € 2,770,- to € 3,539,- gross per month (pay scale P in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities). We also offer an attractive benefits package, including holiday and end-of-year bonuses, training and career development opportunities, and sabbatical leave.
