As a System Engineer at Fortna, you will be responsible for developing logistics (sorting) systems and implementing them at clients' sites.

You will lead projects alongside the project manager, serving as the main technical point of contact.

While involved in all project phases, you will delegate the execution of the functional design across engineering disciplines.

Each discipline will have a lead engineer whom you will guide while they oversee the engineers.

In large projects, you will monitor engineering budgets to ensure everyone stays within them.

Your main tasks will include:

  • Identifying and understanding customer needs at the project outset
  • Brainstorming functional design and determining the technical approach for sorting systems
  • Investigating and incorporating safety requirements, ensuring compliance for CE marking
  • Documenting design using industry-specific 3D modeling programs and functional specifications
  • Implementing safety features and establishing functional acceptance criteria
  • Analyzing acceptance results and iterating for system improvement
  • Conducting client visits approximately once a month in countries like Germany, Denmark, or Italy
  • Presenting, discussing, inspecting, and testing systems during final implementation phases
  • Collaborating within the System Engineering team under a manager
  • Managing multiple projects simultaneously with varying durations
  • Maintaining regular client communication and supporting colleagues
  • Contributing to minor improvement projects within the team

Qualifications and experience include:

  • A completed bachelor's or master's degree in engineering, with experience in mechatronics
  • A highly proactive mindset, thriving on tackling complex problems and coming up with solutions
  • Creative problem-solving skills
  • Knowledge of and experience with technical developments/applications and safety standards
  • The ability to balance customer functional needs with technical quality of systems, considering financial aspects
  • Proficiency in both written and verbal Dutch and English (Dutch is primarily spoken in Houten). Other languages are a plus
  • An organized, efficient, and motivated approach to contributing to Fortna's development
  • Five to ten years of work experience in a technical environment
  • Knowledge of logistics systems is a plus but not required
