Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Scientist III, Research to join our team at Thermo Fisher Scientific. As a key member of our research team, you will be responsible for developing innovative solutions for complex instrumentation development, driving the creation of new markets and applications, and collaborating with colleagues and customers to drive project success.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement research projects to support sample preparation for cryo electron microscopy, including defining and independently completing projects.
  • Analyze and evaluate new technologies, including publications, patents, and applications, and drive the development of intellectual property.
  • Collaborate with colleagues and customers to drive the creation of innovative projects and report results to multiple levels of business leadership.
Requirements and Competencies
  • Typically requires a Doctorate Degree or equivalent in Physics, Chemistry, Engineering, or a related scientific subject and 2+ years of industrial experience.
  • Demonstrated expertise in complex instrumentation development, including systems with charged particle beams, high voltage, high vacuum, precision motion, and data acquisition.
  • Ability to function in a lab-based research environment, troubleshoot equipment, and implement solutions.
  • Data analysis skills using Python, C++, C#, or similar, and sufficient hand-eye coordination to handle and work with small delicate objects.
  • Knowledge in at least one of the areas: electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, mass spectrometry, microfluidics, optical detection, cryogenic equipment and concepts, surface chemistry, protein purification.
  • Experience with statistical engineering tools and ability to handle large amounts of data.
  • Strong sense of ownership for work and responsibilities, strong communication skills, and eagerness to learn.
