We are seeking a skilled DevOps Engineer to join our Platform Operations team at Studyportals, headquartered in Strijp-S, Eindhoven, The Netherlands. This is a hybrid working environment opportunity.

The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing the entire infrastructure and tooling used by our product scrum teams, with a focus on maintaining and innovating our platform. This includes providing guidance on secure design for our scrum teams and owning and improving our infrastructure.

As a key member of our team, you will contribute to speeding up and stabilizing the development process by providing tooling and services to our Engineering teams. We value initiative greatly and are looking for someone who wants to work collaboratively with others to support our product teams, improve and maintain our infrastructure, platform-related tooling, and overall CI/CD process.

Key goals include:

  • Helping us become more scalable as a platform by decoupling dependencies and driving microservice architecture, ensuring quality control remains paramount
  • Identifying weaknesses and threats, and finding cost-effective solutions to cybersecurity problems and scaling ambitions
  • Sharing knowledge with team members and developing yourself further as a developer through personal development budget opportunities to learn new technologies or methods

Your team consists of 35 people in the Product Engineering department, with 4 members in the Platform team. As a developer, you have influence over what to build and how to build it. You report to our Software Development Manager, Stefan, who ensures you can perform your tasks optimally, removes impediments, drives technical innovation, and helps you grow professionally.

We use a service-oriented architecture powered by our own RESTful API and AWS. Our products are built using VueJS, Node/NPM, TypeScript, Sass. We're transitioning to AWS CDK and scaling up our infrastructure via Docker and centralized CI/CD tooling.

To succeed in this role, you should have:

  • About 4-5 years of experience as a DevOps Engineer in the web industry
  • Experience with Amazon Web Services (AWS) or other cloud computing platforms like Azure or Google Cloud Platform
  • Expertise in building modern applications with JavaScript (ES2017), TypeScript, and NPM
  • A strong grasp of automation tools, understanding when and how to automate effectively
  • Knowledge of network security and technologies, system, security, and infrastructure monitoring tools
  • Familiarity with web-related technologies and protocols
