Role Overview

In the realm of deep learning, the availability of extensive labeled datasets is crucial for optimal performance. However, in radar applications, such datasets can often be limited. By harnessing the insights of domain experts, we aim to enhance the training methodologies and overall efficacy of models even when working with smaller labeled datasets. Experts possess valuable knowledge regarding which features are most significant or less relevant based on the defined target classes. Additionally, variations in background noise across different radar measurements can impact the training process, particularly when this noise does not provide pertinent information about the target class. In such scenarios, expert input can guide the neural network towards more effective learning pathways.

The primary objective of this internship is to explore the types of expert knowledge that can be integrated to refine the training process and to determine the best methods for utilizing this knowledge. Visualization techniques, which highlight the image pixels relevant for classification, will serve as a supportive tool in this investigation. Furthermore, neural attention mechanisms will be employed to concentrate the training efforts on those pixels that contain critical information. A variety of radar measurements corresponding to different target classes will be accessible for this project.

You will be working within the Department of Radar Technology, a dynamic and innovative team of 60 professionals committed to the design, development, and assessment of cutting-edge MMICs, compact RF subsystems, antennas, and front-end systems. Our department is pivotal in pioneering advanced radar systems and signal processing concepts across military, space, and civilian sectors.

Candidate Expectations

We are seeking candidates who are nearing the completion of their degree in artificial intelligence, computer science, physics, mathematics, electrical engineering, or a related field, with a demonstrated interest in signal processing or computer vision. Proficiency in programming languages such as Matlab and/or Python is essential, along with a pragmatic approach to problem-solving.
