Position Overview

  • Oversee the operations of the instrumentation engineering division.
  • Utilize technical expertise to execute engineering tasks and generate a variety of instrumentation engineering outputs (including more intricate assignments) with minimal supervision from senior technical staff.
  • Create an array of instrumentation engineering outputs, including specifications, calculations, reports, technical requisitions, material requisitions, and more.
  • Ensure that Instrumentation Engineering tasks are carried out in accordance with project protocols, specifications, standards, and best engineering practices.
  • Manage daily engineering interactions between the core engineering team, Project Management, and the engineering teams involved in the EPC package, coordinating with other specialized disciplines as necessary.
  • Engage in design evaluations and engineering modifications with clients and EPC contractors as required by design progression, ensuring that the core team is informed.
  • Participate in significant client reviews and meetings as needed.
  • Contribute to project assessments, value engineering, and improvement workshops with clients and contractors.
  • Attend meetings and reviews.
  • Responsible for estimating man-hours and scheduling requirements for the electrical discipline in the production of deliverables, coordinating personal work schedules, and preparing progress reports.
  • Evaluate vendor documentation.
  • Conduct site surveys and prepare corresponding reports.
  • Review and provide feedback on PFD/P&ID for any control, interlock, or safety-related representations.
  • Take part in HAZOP/SIL review meetings, implementing safety instrument designs as per review findings.
  • Execute safety instrument design in accordance with HAZOP/SIL review reports, performing SIL definition calculations and preparing safety requirement specifications.
  • Update P&ID and instrument structure designs to meet SIL requirements.
  • Prepare, review, and develop specifications for DCS/SIS/F&G systems and other PLC-related systems.
  • Design system architecture for DCS, SIS, F&G, or other control systems.
  • Prepare material requisitions for DCS/SIS/F&G systems, SCADA, or other control systems necessary for the project.
  • Conduct technical bid evaluations of suppliers' proposals for control systems.
  • Define control system requirements for package units, assisting package specialists with material requisitions, technical clarifications, bid evaluations, document reviews, and approvals. Coordinate interfaces between package unit control systems and plant control systems.
  • Review and approve vendor documents for integration into the design, coordinating with other disciplines. Provide input to other disciplines, such as electrical consumption for power supply design, heat dissipation for ACMV design, and weight and dimensions for civil/architecture design.
  • Prepare cause & effect matrices, logic diagrams, control narratives, safety narratives, and any other necessary documentation for system configurations.
  • Perform SIL verification calculations and revise instrument design structures as necessary.
  • Review and check all activities and documents required for the lifecycle of the safety instrumented system.
  • Review and approve suppliers' hardware and software configurations.
Control Room Layout Design

  • Guide and advise the instrument design team on control system hardware and cabling installation design, as well as system cabinet earthing and grounding design.
  • Prepare instrument bills of quantity and subcontractor requisitions for control system hardware installation.
  • Review, comment, and approve supplier test procedures; attend FAT/SAT and follow up on any punch list items.
  • Develop functional test procedures for loop testing as requested by clients.
  • Require extensive and independent interaction with clients, vendor representatives, and project field personnel. Attend and participate in coordination meetings as required.
  • Direct and/or participate in site visits to gather or provide design and engineering data.
  • Ensure that all comments are consistent and incorporated into the drawings according to applicable procedures.
Qualifications

  • Relevant degree / Chartered Engineer or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of 10 years of proven experience in engineering within refinery, oil & gas, petrochemical, or similar facilities.
  • Experience with FEED and EPC projects.
  • Seasoned engineer with a solid technical background and expertise.
  • Familiarity with appropriate codes of practice, standards, and relevant sections of statutory documentation.
  • Fluent in English; knowledge of French and Dutch is advantageous.
