About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced professional to join our team at HE Space as a Space Debris Officer. As a key member of our Clean Space Engineering Services, you will play a crucial role in supporting the Space Safety Program and its various activities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide systems engineering support to the Space Safety Program, with a focus on S2P COSMIC activities initiated by the Clean Space Office.
  • Support Clean Space Office ADRIOS and COSMIC missions projects, ensuring compliance with Space Debris Mitigation regulations.
  • Collaborate with the Space Debris Office to verify SDM compliance and analyze risks associated with space debris.
  • Contribute to the development of technical roadmaps for TDE, GSTP, ARTES, and other ESA programs in the area of space debris mitigation and ecodesign.
  • Support the collection of best practices and the elaboration of guidelines in the areas of EcoDesign, Space Debris Mitigation, and Close Proximity Operations.
  • Participate in technical working groups for the development of standards and handbooks in the areas of EcoDesign, Space Debris Mitigation, and Close Proximity Operations.
  • Provide training on OPS-SC processes to internal and external trainees.
  • Present and promote ESA achievements, recent research, and work performed at the Clean Space at conferences and support related public relations or outreach activities.
  • Support the organization and preparation of conferences, webinars, and workshops gathering various stakeholders.
  • Provide technical expertise to the ESA Technical Responsible in responding to media requests on space debris.

Requirements

  • Master's degree or equivalent in Engineering.
  • A high degree of independence and ability to work in a team.
  • Strong understanding of the Space Safety Program and R&D and technology development programs.
  • Spacecraft Systems engineering expertise and experience in different space project phases.
  • Expertise in Space segment aspects of Space Debris Mitigation assessment and solutions.
  • Good knowledge of Space Debris Mitigation technologies state of the art.
  • Good understanding of In-Orbit Servicing and Close Proximity Operations State of the Art.
  • Good understanding of Life Cycle Assessment State of the Art.
  • Fluency in English is mandatory, knowledge of another European language is an advantage.
