Minimum qualifications:
  • An associate's degree, certification from a trade school, or equivalent practical experience in a relevant technical discipline.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in Mechanical/HVAC within an industrial or commercial setting.
  • Proficiency in mechanical maintenance, encompassing fire and safety systems, building infrastructure, pumps, tanks, piping, elevators, and cooling systems (including HVAC equipment, chillers, and cooling towers).
  • Fluency in English and Dutch is essential, as this role involves direct interaction with clients and local stakeholders.
Preferred qualifications:
  • At least 5 years of experience maintaining mechanical and cooling distribution systems in a construction or technical environment.
  • Familiarity with data centers, hospitals, or power generation facilities.
  • Understanding of mechanical systems utilized in data center operations (e.g., chillers, air handling units, pumps, and CRAC/CRAH units).
  • Knowledge of meters, devices, sensors, and troubleshooting techniques using standard hand tools, digital metering, or calibration/diagnostic equipment.
  • Capability to communicate effectively with contractors engaged in maintenance or upgrade tasks on data center systems.
About the job

The Data Center team is responsible for designing and managing some of the most advanced electrical and mechanical engineering systems globally. Facilities Technicians at Google data centers are tasked with operating, monitoring, and supporting the physical conditions of these facilities. Key responsibilities include managing the heating and cooling of air and water, overseeing power supply systems, generators, UPS systems, and electrical distribution and control systems. You will routinely inspect, maintain, and repair various data center systems, including piping and non-critical electrical or mechanical components.

As a proponent of best practices, you will devise innovative strategies to reduce operational costs while enhancing overall data center efficiency. Your role will ensure that environmental and safety standards are upheld, enabling you to swiftly identify and rectify issues. In critical situations or unusual conditions, you will oversee data center performance challenges and outages to minimize recovery time from failures.

Responsibilities
  • Monitor multiple information streams in the control room and make precise, mission-critical decisions.
  • Ensure the uptime, maintenance, and troubleshooting of various data center systems, including pumps, HVAC, control and monitoring systems, standby power generation, and electrical distribution.
  • Operate, monitor, maintain, and respond to abnormal conditions in the data center facilities systems and equipment.
  • Lead the execution of complex control system programming, startup, commissioning, documentation, and full facilities turnover on assigned projects.
  • Adhere to the site's environmental health and safety policies.
