Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Researcher to join our team at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. The successful candidate will be part of a dynamic research group focused on fungal ecology and bioinformatics.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and test methods for detection of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungal molecular markers using environmental DNA (eDNA)
  • Model the hyphal network organization of interconnected fungal strains
  • Conduct large-scale greenhouse experiments to examine the impact of fungal strain connectivity or incompatibility on plant response
  • Communicate research findings in local and international conferences
  • Write scientific articles and contribute to the development of research proposals
  • Assist in teaching activities within the department
  • Contribute to the team's research and development efforts
Requirements
  • PhD in Molecular Biology, Microbial Ecology, or a related field with a strong interest in eDNA, data analysis, and bioinformatics
  • Excellent programming and bioinformatics skills in R, Python, or MATLAB
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in English
  • Experience with in-vitro culturing of fungi, preferably arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
