Moderne methodologieën voor kennisextractie produceren vaak taxonomieën, vocabulaires en ontologieën die onvolledig, foutief en gebrekkig zijn aan granulariteit, domeinspecificiteit en focus. In veel domeinen kan het kennisextractieproces worden verbeterd en de resultaten ervan worden verbeterd door geautomatiseerde verwerking van typische documenten die domeinsemantiek accumuleren in hun structurele, sequentiële en opmaakpatronen. In dit 4-jarige PhD-project probeer je een conceptueel kader en een algemene benadering te ontwikkelen voor het gebruik van deze dunne laag semantische informatie om formele domeinkennis te extraheren. De aanpak zal worden toegepast op het gebied van rechtshandhaving en cybercriminaliteit.

Je doet onderzoek naar ontologie-extractie en -verrijking met behulp van verschillende technologieën op het gebied van machine learning, natuurlijke taalverwerking en informatie-extractie. Je ontwikkelt nieuwe methoden en algoritmen, traint, past ze toe en valideert ze op real-life datasets, presenteert en publiceert resultaten op internationale conferenties en in wetenschappelijke tijdschriften, en voltooit je proefschrift.

Deze functie is een samenwerking tussen de Nederlandse Organisatie voor Toegepast Natuurwetenschappelijk Onderzoek (TNO) en de Universiteit Utrecht (UU). Je komt in dienst van de UU en maakt deel uit van de groep Software Technology for Learning and Teaching van professor Johan Jeuring.

Je werkt onder de dagelijkse supervisie van Dr. Sergey Sosnovsky. Tijdens het project werk je nauw samen met Freek Bomhof en dr. Maaike de Boer van de afdeling Data Science van TNO. Bij TNO krijg je de kans om bij te dragen aan verschillende lopende TNO-projecten die ontologie-engineeringtechnologieën ontwikkelen en toepassen in praktische toepassingen.

Kwalificaties

Wij zijn op zoek naar een enthousiaste en toegewijde kandidaat die beschikt over de volgende kwalificaties:- een masterdiploma in informatica, informatica, kunstmatige intelligentie of een aanverwante richting;- een sterke motivatie om zich bezig te houden met onderzoek in informatie- of informatica;- aantoonbare ervaring / hands-on kennis in ontologieën, machine learning, natuurlijke taalverwerking, informatie-extractie of een gerelateerd domein;- beheersing van Engels & Nederlands, zowel in woord als geschrift;

Wat bieden wij jou

de mogelijkheid om te werken in een collaboratief, sociaal en toegewijd team van onderzoekers; een fulltime functie voor 4 jaar; een fulltime brutosalaris dat begint bij € 2.541,- en oploopt tot € 3.247,- per maand (schaal P van de CAO Nederlandse Universiteiten (cao)); 8% vakantietoeslag en 8,3% eindejaarsuitkering; een pensioenregeling, gedeeltelijk doorbetaald ouderschapsverlof en flexibele arbeidsvoorwaarden op basis van de CAO Nederlandse Universiteiten.

De afdeling Informatie- en Informatica staat nationaal en internationaal bekend om haar fundamenteel en toegepast onderzoek op het gebied van informatica en informatica. In onze continu veranderende (digitale) samenleving is de afdeling Informatie- en Informatica continu op zoek naar nieuwe, realistische manieren om de grenzen van zowel wetenschap als maatschappelijke toepassing te verleggen. We dragen bij aan innovatieve informatietechnologieën door de ontwikkeling en toepassing van nieuwe concepten, theorieën, algoritmen en softwaremethoden. Relevante gebieden van interdisciplinair onderzoek zijn onder meer Game Research, Foundations of Complex Systems, Applied Data Science en Artificial Intelligence.

Tijdens het project werk je nauw samen met de afdeling Data Science van TNO. De afdeling Data Science bestaat uit een hecht team van 50 hooggekwalificeerde en gemotiveerde vrouwen en mannen van over de hele wereld, die een drive delen om innovatieve toepassingen te ontwikkelen die gericht zijn op het begrijpen en betekenis geven aan data.
