Policy Manager, Heavy Industry

Are you ready to lead the charge in driving global industrial decarbonisation? We are seeking a dynamic **Policy Manager** to champion the transition to lower emission steel and concrete, and shape ambitious policy frameworks across key markets worldwide.

Based in our Heavy Industry Systems Team, you'll spearhead critical initiatives across international geographies, including the EU and UK, as well as supporting projects in regions such as Japan and North America. Collaborating with over 60 corporate leaders through our SteelZero and ConcreteZero initiatives, you'll break down barriers to lower emission material adoption, influence policy decisions, and accelerate market transformation.

- The Policy Manager will play a pivotal role in our Heavy Industry System by driving development and implementation of the policy strategy, across both SteelZero and ConcreteZero. You will have the opportunity to build upon substantial progress made by these initiatives across the last four years, taking the work to its next level of impact.
- The work will also dovetail with other key global initiatives led by Climate Group including RE100, EP100, EV100/EV100+ and the Under2 Coalition and seek to drive progress across international, national and sub-national forum.

**Key**respon**sibilities** will include**:
- Work closely with colleagues to develop and implement our Heavy Industry policy strategy to support the decarbonisation of steel and concrete across global markets where we are active
- Draft policy positions, briefings, consultation responses and similar documents, particularly in Europe
- Monitor policy and market developments related to industrial decarbonisation, integrating into communication with colleagues and members
- Build relationships with policy makers and political stakeholders
- Work with partners to develop and deliver policy advocacy activities to advance the Heavy Industry teams global policy messages in priority countries
- Liaise with colleagues in Climate Groups other systems teams, including the Government & Policy team to deliver coordinated advocacy work in priority countries
- Work closely with SteelZero and ConcreteZero members to make sure the challenges they face in decarbonising their procurement is reflected in calls for decisive, effective and timely policy interventions
- In collaboration with comms colleagues, ensure policy calls are supported by effective communications activities
- Represent Climate Group and our Heavy Industry system at key events to communicate our policy messaging to relevant audiences
- Manage and deliver policy working groups and policy engagement plans to shape and drive delivery of policy advocacy activities in-country

**Essential**
- Knowledge and experience in policy, public affairs, heavy industry, economics, international relations or related fields as well as influencing policy making from non-profit and corporate perspectives
- Impact oriented and results driven attitude, able to demonstrate contribution to successful impact outcomes and flexible and adaptive planning skills
- Strong organisational skills, with ability to work independently and within a team in a fast-paced environment, prioritising and delegating effectively
- Strong research and writing skills and ability to synthesise policy messaging from complex content
- Problem solving mindset with experience managing risks and challenging relationships
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build effective working relationships across a range of cultural contexts
- Commitment to the mission of Climate Group and our Heavy Industry System
- Experience in developing and implementing policy work
- Knowledge of the EU and/or other jurisdiction decision making process

**Desirable**
- Experience developing and delivering policy advocacy strategies and activities from non-profit or private sector stance
- Knowledge of Industrial decarbonisation, and understanding of steelmaking and concrete-making
- Experience organising multi-stakeholder convenings, including workshops, roundtables, events
- Appreciation of commercial and financial drivers for businesses and NGOs
- Good at working in teams and with people from different countries
