**PhD Position Digitally Modulated Radar**:
**_Join us as a PhD researcher in this prestigious project, leading the way in the development and implementation of state-of-the-art automotive radar technology Your research will improve overall safety in transportation and dramatically reduce the amount of traffic accidents_**

**Job description**:
Constantly evolving advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) demand radar sensors with classification capabilities of detected objects. However a drastic increase of number of automotive radars on the street creates their mutual interference.

The goal of this project is to develop new class of sensing waveforms to be used by MIMO radars operating in a very dense electromagnetic spectrum. These waveforms should be separable in a low complexity digital receiver, which should be developed as well. The ambiguity function of the waveform should have low level of sidelobes in the range, Doppler and angular domains. The digital code and the carrier should be adjustable to the properties of the electromagnetic spectrum at the moment of transmission. The intelligent aspect of the waveform will enable the radar to adapt its parameters and processing to the changes in objects’ properties and environment (both clutter and interference). New sensing signals should be realizable within the analogue bandwidth of available ADC circuits. The performance of the waveforms and the digital receiver should be verified experimentally. Dedicated measurement set-up has to be developed as a part of PhD duties.

The intended scientific breakthrough is to derive, implement, and validate a new type of sensing signals which benefit from modern digital signal processing technology.

**Responsibilities**
- Conduct in-depth research on sensing waveforms in MIMO radar, staying abreast of the latest advancements and breakthroughs in the field.
- Develop simulator of MIMO radar and with its help study and compare performances of different sensing waveforms.
- Design new sensing waveforms to satisfy project requirements.
- Verify theoretical results experimentally by manufactured demonstrator.
- Contribute to the scientific community knowledge through high-quality publications.
- Collaborate with industry partners, academic institutions, and research organizations to stay connected with the latest developments and foster collaborative opportunities.
- Prepare and defend the PhD thesis, which summarizes the results of the research.

**Microwave Sensing, Signals and Systems**

**Job requirements**:

- MSc degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field
- Strong background in signal processing and optimization. Knowledge in the physical layer for wireless communications and sensing is appreciated.
- Proficiency in programming languages such as Python or MATLAB.
- Knowledge of waveforms used in modern communication systems and optimal digital receivers is highly appreciated.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Effective communication and collaboration skills.

**TU Delft (Delft University of Technology)**:
Delft University of Technology is built on strong foundations. As creators of the world-famous Dutch waterworks and pioneers in biotech, TU Delft is a top international university combining science, engineering and design. It delivers world class results in education, research and innovation to address challenges in the areas of energy, climate, mobility, health and digital society. **Faculty Electrical Engineering, Mathematics and Computer Science**:
The Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Mathematics and Computer Science (EEMCS) brings together three scientific disciplines. Combined, they reinforce each other and are the driving force behind the technology we all use in our daily lives. Technology such as the electricity grid, which our faculty is helping to make completely sustainable and future-proof. At the same time, we are developing the chips and sensors of the future, whilst also setting the foundations for the software technologies to run on this new generation of equipment - which of course includes AI. Meanwhile we are pushing the limits of applied mathematics, for example mapping out disease processes using single cell data, and using mathematics to simulate gigantic ash plumes after a volcanic eruption. In other words: there is plenty of room at the faculty for ground-breaking research. We educate innovative engineers and have excellent labs and facilities that underline our strong international position. In total, more than 1000 employees and 4,000 students work and study in this innovative environment.
