**PhD Position Off-Gas Spectroscopy for Physiology and Process Biomarker**:
**Job description**:

PhD project
The PhD position in this vacancy will focus on the discovery of novel volatile bioprocess biomarkers using (near) real-time novel spectroscopic off-gas techniques. In this project, you will have the opportunity to work with yeast bioreactors and explore the volatile compounds that are produced under different growth conditions. Process heterogeneity studies will be conducted at lab scale (scale-down) to identify novel bioprocess biomarkers. Orthogonal monitoring of physiology (e.g. transcriptomics and Raman) will be conducted in parallel with the aims of (1) better understanding cell physiology and (2) aiding biomarker identification. Finally, you will have the opportunity to test and validate biomarkers in different culture setups.
The PhD position co-supervised by dr. Vieira-Lara and dr. Klijn.
The group led by dr. Vieira-Lara is called Bioenergetics and Quantitative Biology. We investigate metabolic strategies of industrially relevant organisms from a quantitative perspective, combining fundamental research with applied approaches to enhance industrial processes.
The group led by dr. Klijn is called: Data-Driven Bioprocess Development group. In this group, we work on a wide variety of biotechnological processes (microbial, mammalian, ATMP) and the implementation of process analytical technology (such as FT-IR and Raman spectroscopy) for process development and process automated control purposes.
