Contract Duration

Visiting Professionals are required to work full time for a period between one and six months (to be agreed to prior to commencement). Visiting Professional placements shall not be extended beyond six months.

Organisational Context

The Strategic Operational Unit (SOU) serves as a dedicated component within the Registry of the International Criminal Court, responsible for facilitating the Court's operational engagement and activities in new situation countries.

The Unit formulates resource mobilization strategies to secure financial, operational and logistical support specifically aligned with the strategic reviews for existing and new situations, identifying and cultivating strategic partnerships with potential donors, member states and other stakeholders.

It provides strategic guidance and maintains coordination with existing ICC field presences and Country Offices on operational issues related to new situations, while engaging with UN peacekeeping/political missions, regional organizations and other external partners to facilitate and enable the Court's strategic operational deployment to new situations.

The Unit is also responsible for the implementation of the European Commission grant entitled "Building Legal Expertise and Fostering Cooperation with the International Criminal Court" (EC grant), conducts fundraising activities in support of the Trust Fund for Family Visits and ensures implementation of other donations to the Court.

Duties and Responsibilities

Typical duties and responsibilities of Visiting Professionals are:

• Support the Unit in the drafting of strategic papers, reports, blue prints in relation to operational external relations activities in support of the Registry's work and its field operations.
• Support in the implementation of the regional strategies developed by the Unit,
• Support the Unit in the liaison with representatives of UN and civil society in support of the Registry's field operations, including in relation to Memoranda of Understanding, operational request emanating from various Sections .
• Drafting note verbales, correspondence, reports and requests for operational assistance to States and IO's in support of the Registry's operations and its field activities.
• Assist in implementation of the activities organized in the implementation of the European Commission grant and other donations.
• Attending meetings and conferences.
• Perform any other duties as required.

Required Qualifications

Education:

All candidates must have a first level university degree from an accredited university in political science, law, international relations, management, or a related field. Candidates are expected to have a very good record of academic performance.

Experience:

Visiting Professional placements focus on candidates who have extensive experience in their professional careers in relevant fields of work. Practical experience that is relevant to the work of the Court may be considered an asset. Candidates for a Visiting Professional placement must have at least 3 (three) years of relevant professional experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• Ability to adapt to multicultural and multilingual working environments.
• Strong teamwork skills (listens, consults and communicates proactively).
• Very good oral communication and drafting skills.
• Good standard of computer skills (including Microsoft Office applications) and research skills (including the use of electronic databases).

Knowledge of Languages:

Proficiency in one of the working languages of the Court, French or English, is required. Working knowledge of the other is desirable. Knowledge of another official language of the Court (Arabic, Chinese, Russian and Spanish) is an asset.

Remuneration

Please note that internship and visiting professional placements at the ICC are unfunded.

The ICC is not able to provide participants in the Internship and Visiting Professional Programme with any remuneration, nor is it possible to provide reimbursement for expenses incurred prior, during or after the internship or visiting professional placement. Applicants must therefore be able to support themselves for the entire duration of their internship or visiting professional placement.
