Etpa is a designated European Power Exchange for the short-term electricity market. Our state-of-the-art platform is a key enabler for the transition to renewable energy. We provide access to spot-trading to many new players in the market, including battery companies, energy management systems, asset owners and utility companies.

Our trading platform is developed in-house, allowing us to challenge incumbent competitors while expanding into other markets and EU geographies to capture a larger share of the market. We hold the NEMO license to operate a regulated power exchange and share order books with other European exchanges. Our teams operate from Amsterdam, Valletta (Malta), and Novi Sad (Serbia). We are backed by renowned impact investors who fully support our growth and expansion.  

We outperform our competitors in terms of speed, cash management, scalability, cost and IT connectivity. Our current portfolio of exchanges includes Intraday (XBID), Congestion management (GOPACS) and day after trading (Ex-Post). We are expanding our geography and products, and are currently in the process of expanding our product offering to auctions.

About the role

As our Chief Technology Officer, you will be responsible for shaping and driving the long-term technology vision of the company. Reporting directly to the CEO, you will lead our engineering and tech strategy, overseeing the development, deployment, and scaling of our trading platform and infrastructure. You will manage a department of approximately 30 people divided into 4 teams and will be a member of our leadership team.  

Your main responsibilities:

  • As a member of the leadership team, you'll play a critical role in strategic planning, innovation, and organizational growth.
  • Manage and coach the tech department and drive change.
  • Define and execute the company's technology strategy in alignment with business objectives.
  • Oversee system architecture, development processes, and cloud infrastructure.
  • Ensure security, scalability, and performance across all platforms.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to support product innovation and delivery.
  • Lead by example and help foster an inspiring, inclusive, and optimistic work environment.
  • We are searching for a CTO who will join the team in Amsterdam. This role is office based with the opportunity to work from home two days a week.

About you

  • Significant experience in technology leadership roles, ideally as a CTO or Head of Engineering.
  • Experience with leading technical teams building and scaling products or platforms.
  • Experience with trading and trading platforms.
  • A solid background in software development, architecture, and infrastructure.
  • Ability to balance short-term delivery with long-term scalability.
  • Proven experience understanding and working with complex systems.
  • Strong communication skills; able to inspire teams towards a shared goal.
  • Experience with hiring, mentoring, and developing engineering talent.
  • Ideally you have experience in and knowledge of the energy market.
