Delft, Zuid-Holland, Nederland EnErgo recruitment Voltijd

We are a young and fast-growing deep-tech start-up with big ambitions at the frontier of autonomy, perception, and defence.

Our core expertise lies in 3D vision and graphics technologies which we deploy in a dual-use context for inspection and defence.

The role of the Control engineer will focus mainly on the defence context where we are developing software for advanced on-board UAV situational awareness in military applications.

Our solutions are aimed to operate with low-cost and widely available sensors and compute. From there, we plan to develop a line-up of interconnected solutions to safeguard European safety.

We work closely with top-tier partners, ranging from government agencies and prime contractors to academic research institutes and other start-ups. Our projects span from large tender orders in collaboration with partners to low TRL research with government agencies. Whether through formal R&D programs or rapid prototyping tracks, we operate at the intersection of innovation and deployment.

Your role

You will collaborate closely with our team of experienced 3D vision engineers, 3D graphics engineers, and robotics engineers to develop the core software that keeps our drones stable, agile, and autonomous from the first simulated takeoff to high-performance, real-world flight. You'll be responsible for designing, implementing, and validating advanced flight control and guidance algorithms, integrating them tightly with our state-of-the-art perception systems.

  • Implementing guidance logic and mission-level behaviors such as autonomous takeoff, landing, waypoint navigation, and other mission-specific objectives.
  • Integrating control and navigation modules with perception-driven state estimation and environment understanding.
  • Designing and executing simulation pipelines (SITL/HIL) for testing and verification of control algorithms before deployment.
  • Analyzing flight data and telemetry to evaluate control performance, stability margins, and fault conditions.
  • Collaborating with hardware engineers to configure and calibrate new UAV platforms, ensuring tight coupling between software and physical systems.
  • Supporting real-world flight campaigns, including post-flight analysis and iteration.
  • Contributing to the development of reusable control libraries, diagnostic tools, and flight visualization utilities.
  • Iterating rapidly between simulation and hardware to push the performance envelope of both fixed-wing and multi-rotor flight.

What we expect from you

  • Solid background in flight dynamics, control theory, and real-time systems.
  • Experience designing and tuning control loops for fixed-wing or multirotor UAVs (attitude, rate, position, or path tracking).
  • Familiarity with flight controllers such as PX4, Ardupilot, or custom real-time control frameworks.
  • Experience implementing control algorithms in C++ or Python running on embedded or real-time systems (e.g., STM32, NuttX, Jetson).
  • Strong grasp of estimation and filtering (EKF, complementary filters, sensor fusion).
  • Comfortable working with UAV simulation environments and integrating control software with SITL/HIL setups.
  • A willingness to pick up and learn new concepts quickly and to self-acquire missing background knowledge.
  • A high degree of autonomy, determination and grit in making cool tech work.
  • Full time availability (40 hours)

What we offer

  • Money of course.
  • 25 vacation days per year.
  • Reimbursed travel expenses and company laptop.
  • (Really) flexible working hours and option to work from home 2 days per week (when not abroad).
  • Working in an international, world-class team of engineers and entrepreneurs solving real-life problems with amazing technology.
  • Large freedom in how you work and implement solutions, project ownership is incredibly important to us.
  • The opportunity to take technical risks, to implement stuff the 'right' way and to iterate quickly with tight feedback loops. We are innovating, learning is to be expected.
  • Responsibility over the things you implement, you are the expert on what you build.
