We are seeking a
Freelance Mechanical Engineer (ZZP)
to support a leading machine builder in Noord-Brabant known for designing and delivering high-precision, fully automated production systems. The company specializes in
custom-built machinery for the food processing, packaging, and high-tech manufacturing sectors
, supporting clients across the Netherlands and Europe.

Their systems range from advanced material-handling lines and robotic packaging cells to high-speed production units and mechatronic modules used in clean, demanding industrial environments. You will join a multidisciplinary engineering team working on new machine concepts, mechanical redesigns, and complex customer-specific solutions.

Your Role

  • Design mechanical components, assemblies, and complete machine modules tailored to customer specifications.
  • Develop 3D models, detailed drawings, and manufacturing packages using SolidWorks, Inventor, or Creo.
  • Perform mechanical calculations, material selections, and tolerance analyses for dynamic moving systems.
  • Support prototype builds, mechanical testing, and verification of new machine concepts.
  • Work closely with electrical, controls, robotics, and production departments on system integration.
  • Identify mechanical challenges during assembly and commissioning, providing practical engineering solutions.
  • Ensure compliance with CE, ISO, and industry-specific regulatory standards (food safety, hygiene, or high-precision requirements).
  • Produce technical documentation, BOMs, assembly instructions, and revision reports for manufacturing teams.

Your Profile

  • 5+ years of mechanical engineering experience within machine building, OEM equipment manufacturing, industrial automation, or high-tech machinery.
  • Proficient in at least one major 3D CAD package (SolidWorks, Inventor, Creo, NX).
  • Experience with prototyping, mechanical validation, and supporting assembly and testing teams.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing techniques (machining, sheet metal, welding, injection moulding).
  • Understanding of mechatronics principles, motion systems, and dynamic machine behaviour.
  • Fluent in Dutch and English for technical communication.
  • Registered
    ZZP'er
    , eligible to work in the Netherlands.
  • Available for regular on-site work in Noord-Brabant.

Bonus Skills

  • Experience with pneumatics, hydraulics, servo-driven systems, or robotic integration.
  • Background in high-speed machinery, hygienic machine design, or cleanroom-compatible systems.
  • Familiarity with DFMEA, risk assessments, and technical files for CE marking.
