Optimization of a Matlab tool to automate calibration steps for Heavy Duty Diesel On-Board Diagnostics. The current calibration process for Heavy Duty Diesel Engine Diagnostics is encountering many challenges, ranging from maximizing driver comfort to minimizing emissions and satisfying regulatory requirements. With every iteration, the complexity of the DAF engine is increasing, making it a challenge to handle all data efficiently and properly calibrate the engine. To tackle this problem, a concept of a general optimization engine diagnostic calibration tool is created, which will become the Swiss Army knife for diagnostic calibration in the future. As this tool is in its early stages of development, it presents an interesting opportunity to make a significant impact on how engineers perform their work. It will optimize efficiency, reduce failures, and enable excellent data handling.

  • You will be responsible for assisting in the development of an optimal calibration Matlab tool
  • You will work closely together with experienced engine developers
  • Your main goal will be to statistically validate the tool based on the most recent engine data

  • Your secondary goal will be to understand engine behavior and all different components

  • An internship wage of € 450,- Master per month on full-time base;

Diagnostic calibration is part of Paccar's Global Engine Integration department, situated at DAF in Eindhoven. The calibration engineers in this team are responsible for creating and validating robust diagnostics for Paccar's 11 and 13 litre Diesel engines. The calibration deliverables are being optimized for best possible customer experience, whilst being legally compliant. You will work in a team of around 20 people, all with various backgrounds and work experience. A mentor will be assigned to you to help and guide you along your project. Requirements:

  • Basic understanding of combustion engines, interest in automotive technology
  • Knowledge of coding in MATLAB is a must
  • Experience with data handling and processing
  • Background knowledge of optimization is a plus
  • Background knowledge on statistics is a plus
