Internship: Supply Chain Risk Management Process Validation

Objective

To validate and refine the procurement risk management process based on the 2025 pilot and to design and develop a Supply Chain Risk Monitor that provides an integrated, organization-wide view of supply chain risk and its commercial impact.

Background

In 2025, a pilot project introduced a new approach to identifying and assessing procurement and supply chain risks, such as supplier dependency, logistical disruptions, market volatility, and sustainability challenges.

The pilot proved valuable but was limited in scope and lacked a holistic monitoring structure. The next phase aims to test the process more broadly, refine the methodology, and implement a practical Supply Chain Risk Monitor that connects risk assessment results to commercial and operational decision-making.

Main Tasks

1. Review the 2025 Pilot and Current Risk Practices

2. Analyze the pilot results, tools, and templates.

3. Review current risk management and supplier evaluation methods.
4. Identify available data sources (e.g., supplier data, spend analysis, logistics performance, ESG data).

5. Map how procurement risks connect to wider supply chain vulnerabilities (e.g., tier-2 suppliers, transport routes, geopolitical zones).

6. Validate and Refine the Risk Management Process

7. Apply the pilot methodology to several procurement categories or supplier groups.

8. Assess the usability, accuracy, and practicality of the risk assessment approach.
9. Gather feedback from buyers, category managers, supply chain planners, and key stakeholders.

10. Identify any missing dimensions (e.g., lead time variability, supplier resilience, geopolitical exposure).

11. Quantify Commercial and Operational Impact

12. Develop a simple framework to translate identified risks into commercial exposure (e.g., cost volatility, supply disruption cost, lost revenue).

13. Evaluate how risk visibility supports strategic decisions (e.g., sourcing diversification, contract terms, inventory buffers).

14. Highlight potential savings or cost-avoidance achieved through proactive risk management.

15. Design and Develop the Supply Chain Risk Monitor

16. Define the scope and purpose of the Supply Chain Risk Monitor — an integrated tool providing:

17. Overall risk exposure across suppliers, categories, and regions
18. Key indicators (e.g., high-risk suppliers, risk trends, mitigation progress)
19. Drill-down capability for supplier or category details
20. Design the monitor's structure (dashboard + input templates).
21. Develop a working prototype in Excel, Power BI, or another suitable tool.
22. Populate the monitor with real or test data from procurement and supply chain systems.

23. Validate the tool with users and refine it based on feedback.

24. Formalize the Supply Chain Risk Management Process

25. Document the updated Supply Chain Risk Management Procedure, including:

26. Process steps: identification → assessment → mitigation → monitoring
27. Roles and responsibilities across procurement, logistics, and risk teams
28. Data sources and reporting cadence
29. Integration of the monitor into regular management reviews

30. Develop supporting materials: templates, checklists, scoring matrix, and quick-reference guides.

31. Implementation and Communication

32. Present findings and the monitor prototype to Procurement, Supply Chain, and Risk Management stakeholders.

33. Incorporate feedback and finalize the documentation.
34. Contribute to a rollout plan and short user guide for adoption within the organization.

• Validated and documented Supply Chain Risk Management Process
• Functional Supply Chain Risk Monitor Tool (Excel/Power BI prototype) providing an overall view of supply chain risk exposure
• Evaluation Report detailing commercial and operational impact findings
• Presentation of results and recommendations to management
