The Sonion Group develops, manufactures, and sells product solutions to customers who manufacture hearing instruments and other acoustic solutions. Sonion Nederland B.V (Sonion NL) is the main R&D center within transducers and modules, but Sonion NL also has sales supportive activities such as Application Engineering, CQS and administrative support functions. Sonion has facilities in Denmark, the Netherlands, Vietnam, USA and China, wherefrom our (more than 6000) colleagues work together across all locations.

In Hoofddorp you will join approx. 100 of our colleagues as we design new products for the hearing health and pro audio market. Project Proposal

Update our EMI (radiated immunity test) setup.

Background

As our microphones are placed in hearing aids, it is important to make sure our microphones are not sensitive against radiation from e.g. telephones, which are close to the hearing aid. For this, we have a setup consisting of a GTEM-cell to create a linear field and metal cubes with an acoustic output to measure the output.

Project Goals:

• Documentation of our EMI measurement coupled with an upgrade of our current way of working. All the calibrations should refer to each other in the correct way.

• Investigation of bandwidth extension. With our current system we can measure from 0.7 GHz to 2.7 GHz, but what can we do up to 6 GHz (because of new Wifi ax and such). What would we need if we want this capability and how would it be executed?

• Investigation of other immunity tests which go to lower frequencies, for example direct current injection, bulk current injection etc.

• Upgrade our system to a newer connection system. Currently our system runs on GPIB. The only limiting apparatus is the dynamic signal analyzer (DSA), which is old and only has the GPIB connection. The other equipment can also be connected through USB and/or Lan (LXI). I would like to move away from the old DSA. For this, different type of equipment has to be placed and integrated.

Your tasks and responsibilities

• Set up, document and execute tests in the electro acoustical domain;
• Support in maintaining the calibrations schedule of electro acoustical test equipment.

Your profile

• Currently studying for an engineering degree, such as technical physics, electrical engineering or something similar at a technical university level or higher;
• Have an affinity or interest in Radio Frequency measurements;
• Have experience with LabView;
• Fluent in English, written and spoken. Sonion is an international company and with the Hoofddorp office we have colleagues from all over the world. Basic/fluent Dutch is a plus;
• Proactive and willing to take ownership of responsibilities.
