Senior Technical Underwriter – Property &  General Liability

Location: Amsterdam or Brussels (or Lisbon for existing employees)
Reports to: Director Technical Underwriting Benelux
Band: II

Your Role

As part of our Technical Underwriting Team, you will take ownership of building two new portfolio's for Property and for General Liability, driving profitability and strategic development.

Key Responsibilities

  • Product Development & Underwriting: Set up two new business lines. Property and General Liability, to support our modulair product and help create sector solutions.
  • Portfolio Management: Ensure profitable growth of the Property and General Liability portfolios. monitor performance and implement corrective measures when needed.
  • Strategic Decision-Making: Define pricing strategies, risk appetite and measures to maintain profitability.
  • Leadership: Provide technical guidance to underwriters, manage authority levels and conduct audits.
  • Sales & Marketing Support: Collaborate with direct, online and broker channels, including support for large risks and special agreements.
  • Project Leadership: Drive local and international projects and contribute to Europe-wide product and underwriting strategy.
  • Market Insight: Monitor Property and General Liability market trends in the Benelux and Europe, assess competitive positioning and identify emerging risks.
  • Training & Development: Deliver internal and external training sessions, webinars and presentations.

Technical Expertise Development

  • Extensive knowledge of business interruption;
  • Work with actuaries to develop pricing algorithms and optimise rates.
  • Collaborate with the Wording Committee to translate risk appetite into clauses and wordings.
  • Support underwriting teams with referrals and guideline interpretation.
  • Engage with claims teams and sales partners to share expertise and evaluate risks.

Your Profile

  • Proven expertise in Property risk underwriting with strong analytical and product knowledge.
  • 'Familiarity with Business Interruption (BI) insurance in the context of Property coverage.
  • Ability to diagnose issues based on data and facts.
  • Structured, organised and capable of balancing operational tasks with strategic projects.
  • Strong communication skills – able to simplify complex topics and influence stakeholders.
  • Fluent Dutch and/or French and excellent English skills required.
