Senior cloud engineer

You have solid technical experience in initiating and hands-on delivering strategic Azure cloud projects. As a cloud engineer, you will join one of our four SaaS platform teams, constantly challenging themselves to see if we can go faster or improve.

What are you going to do?

Enabling our customers' organisations to continue to grow The 'formal description' is that as a cloud engineer, you'll be responsible for a stable and scalable infrastructure on which we run our customer environments. But we're not that formal. So, how would we describe what we do? The SaaS Platform team works with cutting-edge technology, and that's pretty cool. We host thousands of customer environments that are updated twice a week and require 24/7 uptime. That's why we're constantly challenging ourselves to go faster and bring our cloud platform to the next level.

We always look to optimize our team processes to ensure both 24/7 stability and realize our cloud vision that supports the growing business. Night shifts, typically about a few per month at present, are shared among multiple teams and colleagues to provide continuous support for critical tasks. Our roadmaps also contain strategic projects for cloud evolution, and cross-team joint projects. Clear communication and mutual respect between teams are vital to the success of this hybrid approach.

Tech Stack

Do you have relevant technical experience? Then this list will give you an idea of the tools and processes you'll work with as a cloud engineer: provisioning (Terraform), Azure networking, configuration (Puppet, Ansible), containerization (Kubernetes, Azure AKS), block- and object storage, Elasticsearch, observability (Influx, VictoriaMetrics, Nagios etc.), Python, virtual machines, and more. We use these technologies on Windows and Linux servers, MS SQL databases, firewalls and VPN servers.

But, it's not only about what we currently use. A successful candidate is expected to lead and bring our technology to the next level.

Where will you be working?

At TOPdesks headquarters in Delft As a cloud engineer, you'll join one of our 4 SaaS platform teams, which have 32 members in total. We are social technicians with much love for what we do, and we find it essential to be open with each other, which also means giving feedback. In our team, we can say anything, and we always listen to each other.

Our work is guided by agile principles, a framework you're likely familiar with. We are constantly engaged in tasks related to maintenance, cloud evolution, efficiency and FinOps. As a team, we prioritize tasks from our backlog and deliver on them during our 2-week sprints. Regular retrospectives help us identify areas for improvement and keep us agile.

We expect you and the team to be playful but responsible with technology. In the interview, we'd like to hear about what you've discovered and implemented in your previous or current job.

• You have at least 7 years of experience as a cloud engineer with Azure.
• You are a technical, hands-on leader who can take responsibility and lead major cloud initiatives and transformations. You know how to bring colleagues (inside and outside your team) together towards a common goal.
• You have a minimum of 3 years of experience with Terraform via CI/CD.
• You have experience with CAF and WAF.
• You have experience setting up (SQL) databases for scalability.
• Azure networking is not a mystery to you.
• You are proactive, take initiative, and can lead.
• You know how to identify dependencies early and cooperate with other engineering and non-cloud teams to support company goals.
• You have experience in programming, provisioning, and configurations.
• You enjoy the complexity of SaaS and work in a structured, step-by-step way.
• You believe in teamwork and clear communication as much as we do.
• You're looking for a job with an international context.
• You don't mind a stand-by shift (evenings or weekends) from time to time.
• Relevant Azure certificates and TOGAF are an advantage, but not mandatory.
