The Opportunity

We're supporting our client in appointing a
European Natural Gas Portfolio Trader
to join their growing trading function in the Netherlands.

The successful candidate will take responsibility for managing and optimising gas exposures across several European hubs, ensuring portfolio value is maximised through active trading, risk management, and asset optimisation.

This is a front-office trading role that sits at the intersection of commercial decision-making, market analysis, and physical asset management.

Key Responsibilities

  • Trade across key European gas hubs (including TTF, NBP, PEG, THE, ZTP) within spot, prompt, and forward markets.
  • Optimise portfolio positions within approved risk parameters and deliver strong P&L performance.
  • Execute trades across physical and financial instruments, aligning activity with commercial and asset strategies.
  • Monitor market fundamentals such as weather, LNG flows, storage, and pipeline dynamics to identify opportunities.
  • Apply data-driven insights and quantitative tools to identify arbitrage and cross-commodity opportunities.
  • Work collaboratively with portfolio managers, analysts, and risk teams to refine strategies and capture value.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of trading tools, models, and systems to enhance decision support.

About You

You'll bring a sharp commercial mindset, strong numerical ability, and a solid understanding of European gas markets. You'll thrive in a fast-paced, data-led environment and be confident making decisions under pressure.

Requirements:

  • Degree in Finance, Economics, Engineering, or another quantitative field.
  • 2–5 years' experience trading in European gas markets.
  • Sound knowledge of gas market structures, logistics, and balancing mechanisms.
  • Proficiency with analytical tools or coding languages (e.g. Python, SQL) is advantageous.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Currently based in, or eligible to work in, the Netherlands.
