Information Security Engineer

Location: Leiden (NL) | Hours: 36-40 per week

As an
Information Security Engineer
, you play a key role in protecting the organization's information assets while actively contributing to IT and cybersecurity projects. You translate security policies, risk assessments, and compliance requirements into concrete technical solutions and actionable project plans.

This is a hands-on role that combines day-to-day security operations with the coordination and delivery of improvement initiatives across IT and the wider business. You work closely with internal stakeholders and external cybersecurity partners to continuously strengthen our security posture.

Your tasks

• Manage cloud and infrastructure security in a hybrid IT environment, with a strong focus on Microsoft Azure, in close cooperation with external cybersecurity partners.
• Support the development, implementation, and maintenance of information security policies, standards, and procedures in line with applicable regulations and frameworks (e.g. NIS2, ISO
• Coordinate and manage small to mid-sized IT and cybersecurity projects, including planning, execution, progress tracking, and reporting.
• Support risk assessments, vulnerability scans, audits, and penetration tests, and ensure timely follow-up and remediation of identified findings.
• Implement security controls within IT projects, embedding security-by-design and privacy-by-design principles.
• Operate and support key security technologies, including Identity & Access Management (IAM), endpoint protection, security monitoring, and vulnerability management tools.
• Support security incident handling, including technical analysis, documentation, and defining improvement actions.
• Prepare, maintain, and support testing of Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery documentation.
• Contribute to security awareness initiatives and user training programs.
• Maintain security and project documentation, dashboards, and KPI reporting.
• Act as a point of contact for operational security questions from IT teams and business users.

You have

• Bachelor's degree in IT, Computer Science, or a related discipline.
• Entry-level to associate certifications such as Security+, SC-900, AZ-500, or equivalent.
• At least 5 years of experience in IT, infrastructure, or information security, including exposure to project-based work.
• Hands-on experience with cloud platforms (preferably Microsoft Azure), IAM, endpoint security, and network security.
• Experience coordinating IT or security-related projects is a strong advantage.
• Basic knowledge of relevant regulations and standards such as NIS2, ISO 27001, and GDPR.
• Excellent command of the English language, both spoken and written; strong proficiency in Dutch is highly preferred.
