Business Analyst – European Payments & ISO 20022Location: Amsterdam (Onsite) Contract: Freelance / B2B Rate: Up to €72/hour Languages: English Competencies: Business Analysis, BaNCS Retail Payments, Retail PaymentsWe are seeking an experienced Business Analyst with deep expertise in European payment schemes, ISO 20022 standards, and payment hub modernisation. The role is mostly onsite in Amsterdam and requires hands-on experience working with SEPA, SCT Inst, TARGET2, TIPS, RT1, SWIFT, and regulatory frameworks across the EU payments landscape.Key ResponsibilitiesLead requirements gathering for SEPA, SEPA Instant (SCT Inst), TARGET2, TIPS, RT1, SWIFT and other European payment schemes.Support ISO 20022 / CBPR+ migration, including MT–MX mapping and message validation.Analyse and document AS-IS and TO-BE payment processes, identifying gaps, dependencies, and regulatory impacts.Ensure compliance with PSD2, PSD3, SCA, AML, KYC, and SEPA rulebook obligations.Contribute to payment hub modernisation, clearing & settlement optimisation, and API-driven integrations.Work in Agile/Scrum environments, supporting SIT/UAT, backlog refinement, and cross-functional delivery teams.Must-Have SkillsStrong, demonstrable experience in European payments ecosystemsExpertise in ISO 20022, SWIFT MT/MX, CBPR+Knowledge of Open Banking, Instant Payments, and Payment HubsFamiliarity with clearing & settlement mechanismsBPMN-based process modellingHands-on experience with Jira and ConfluenceNice-to-HaveExperience with ABN AMRO, ING, or Dutch payment productsUnderstanding of EPI, iDEAL, Wero initiativesExposure to cloud and AI-driven solutions for paymentsAdditional InformationWork Model: Fully Onsite/ Hybrid (Amsterdam)Strong BA documentation capability and ability to interface with technical & compliance teams is essential.
