About the Company
An Amsterdam-based tech organisation is redefining interactive entertainment, building real-time platforms for broadcasters, gaming companies, and global brands. Their products power seamless, large-scale user engagement experiences used by audiences around the world.
As they continue to grow, they’re seeking a Head of Engineering who can blend hands‑on technical expertise with strong leadership. This person will guide both the technical direction and the engineering culture, helping shape scalable systems and an even stronger team.
The Role
- Lead and mentor a talented engineering team, driving innovation and best practices
- Stay hands‑on with backend development using Java (21+), Spring Boot, and AWS
- Make key architectural and technical decisions for systems and tooling
- Design and scale distributed systems and high-performance APIs
- Collaborate closely with product, design, and client teams to deliver exceptional solutions
- Build and refine engineering processes, security standards, and team culture
- Play a key role in hiring, onboarding, and developing new engineering talent
The Ideal Profile
- 6+ years of backend development experience, including senior or lead roles
- Strong expertise in Java (21+), Spring Boot, AWS, and MongoDB
- Deep understanding of NoSQL database design, optimisation, and real‑time data flow
- A mix of hands‑on coding ability and a passion for mentoring others
- Excellent communication skills in English (Dutch is a plus)
- Curiosity for emerging technologies such as AI, LLMs, and cloud‑native tools
