At ChemE a project has been opened funded by the Dutch government through the Netherlands National Growth Fund. This position is part of a large consortium, SolarNL consisting of industrial parties, higher education institutes, TNO and SolarLab. The project aims at improving the photovoltaic efficiency of new technologies by implementing novel materials with improved opto-electronic properties.

The PhD student will cary out fundamental research on improving the performance of solar cells based on single or double junctions on solid or flexbile substrates.

  1. Formulate methods to deposit perovskites using vacuum based techniques
  2. Characterisation of perovskite materials using advanced analytic tools
  3. Develop appropriate contact layers and prototype cells
  4. Identify loss mechanisms by various optical and electric methods
  5. Deveop strategies to overcome unwanted recombination

The PhD will be part of a larger research team at ChemE of AS, the PVMD group of ESE and other Universities within the Netherlands

Functie-eisen

The successful candidate has obtained a master's degree with excellent marks in physics, chemistry, sustainable energy technologies, or material science. The candidate has a passion for solar energy and is an excellent team player. A good command of the English language is required. Domain knowledge of solar energy materials and engineering, energy transtion, or material science is a strong plus.

Doing a PhD at TU Delft requires English proficiency at a certain level to ensure that the candidate is able to communicate and interact well, participate in English-taught Doctoral courses, and write scientific articles and a final thesis. With more than 1,000 employees, including 135 pioneering principal investigators, and approximately 3,400 passionate students, the Faculty of Applied Sciences is an inspiring scientific ecosystem. Our faculty focuses on key technologies, such as quantum and nanotechnology, photonics, biotechnology, synthetic biology, and energy storage and conversion materials, providing solutions to key problems of the 21st century. As part of the Faculty of Applied Sciences, the Chemical Engineering department (www.cheme.tudelft.nl) conducts fundamental and applied research that focuses on chemical-technological innovations. In addition, the education department in the BSc and MSc programs Molecular Science &; Technology and Chemical Engineering and the PDEng programs Chemical Engineering. The department consists of approximately 300 employees: professors, associate professors, postdocs, PhD candidates and students who are supported by technical and administrative staff.
