The Home and Personal Care (HPC) team strives to be the preferred partner of our customers, delivering high-value, sustainable, and consumer relevant biobased solutions for the Home, Personal, and Industrial Care Markets. Our ingredient portfolio includes enzymes, biopolymers, and other bioactives for application in detergents, personal care products, textile processing and various industrial cleaning processes.

We are looking for an Application Scientist with industry experience to strengthen our team and support the development of biobased solutions for detergents used for home & fabric care. In this role you will be based at our IFF Leiden site, The Netherlands and report to the Regional Application Lead. Our Leiden site is a dynamic and globally diverse hub, comprising 180 colleagues representing 29 nationalities. Our colleagues work across R&D, Application Development, and Commercial functions for our Health & Bioscience business, along with corporate staff.

Key responsibilities

As Application Scientist you will identify, assess, and develop new product or application development concepts to provide valuable customer solutions. You will manage (a workstream of) technical projects, both focused on selling opportunities and new product development. You are a subject matter expert who can act as a technical resource to sales professionals, distributors, customers, and partners. You contribute to translating product data into effective marketing and sales tools. As a key member of the Application team, you will supervise and coach other team members on subjects such as application methods, design of experiment, data management and interpretation, and developing value propositions. You have a hands-on mentality and participate in the setup and execution of lab experiments as well as lab improvement projects. Lab experiments include biochemical analysis of enzymatic detergent formulations, stability testing, and product performance appraisal in e.g., washing machines and dishwashers. You will represent IFF at key industry meetings and conferences and build a network with a variety of internal and external stakeholders.

Job Requirements

• Academic degree (MSc or PhD) in a relevant bioscience, chemical or engineering discipline.
• 5-10 years’ work experience in the detergent, personal care, chemical, or (food) ingredient industry, preferably in a R&D, technical support, or application development role.
• Good interpersonal skills and ability to build and maintain relationships.
• Proactive, and self-starting personality.
• Strong communication skills. Proficiency in English, both written and verbal.
• Team-player who enjoys working in an international environment.
• Based or willing to relocate to The Netherlands.
