Sr Director, Statutory Controller

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Statutory Controller to join our multinational team. This position will be a member of Foot Locker’s global Financial Reporting function and will report to the VP, Taxation. In this role, you will provide company-wide direction to ensure required statutory reporting is well-controlled and meets global regulatory frameworks and requirements. As the Statutory Controller, you will be managing a team that is responsible for ensuring compliance with European and APAC statutory reporting requirements across all entities within the regions. This role will involve working closely with various stakeholders, including finance teams, external auditors, tax authorities, and regulatory bodies.
The Statutory Controller must be a self-starter that enjoys working in a fast-paced environment while managing multiple work streams and competing priorities, has strong business acumen, is a proven leader, practices excellent communication and listening skills, is process oriented, and has a superior finance and accounting foundation.
Responsibilities
Statutory Reporting. Responsible for overseeing the preparation, accuracy, and timeliness of statutory financial statements in accordance IFRS standards, local GAAP, and regulatory requirements for all entities within the European and APAC region. Compliance. Ensure compliance with local statutory regulations and reporting requirements in each European and APAC country where the company operates. Audit Coordination. Coordinate and manage the annual statutory audits conducted by external auditors for entities within the European region, ensuring timely completion and resolution of audit issues. Internal Controls. Establish and maintain effective internal controls over financial reporting to ensure the accuracy and integrity of statutory financial statements. Tax Compliance Support. Work closely with the Direct and Indirect FLE tax teams (including corporate income tax, VAT, and other indirect taxes) to ensure timely and accurate GAAP to Local difference support and well as local country support on tax audits and tax filings. Advisory Support in connection with the statutory accounts. Provide guidance and support to the statutory finance teams on accounting and reporting matters, including interpretation of accounting standards and staying up to date regulatory changes and their impact on financial reporting matters. Process Improvement. Identify opportunities for process improvements and efficiencies in statutory reporting processes and systems, driving standardization and automation where possible.
Qualifications
Candidate will show strength in the following areas: technical accounting knowledge, internal control, indirect tax knowledge, and financial reporting. Bachelor’s degree in accounting, professional qualifications such as Chartered Accountant, CPA or equivalent professional qualification preferred. Minimum 10-year experience with extensive experience in financial reporting and accounting roles, preferably a mix of public accounting and within a multinational company operating in Europe or APAC. In-depth knowledge of European and APAC statutory reporting requirements, local GAAP, and tax regulations. Coupled with a strong understanding of US GAAP and IFRS. Excellent analytical skills with the ability to interpret financial data and communicate insights effectively. Proven record of accomplishment of managing statutory audits and working with external auditors. Strong leadership and interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across different functions and cultures within a global organization. Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced and dynamic environment, meeting tight deadlines while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.
