VVM upgrade

Introduction
Visco-visio-meter (VVM) is a unique machine that is only available in VMI and it is commonly used for rubber compound characterization. The machine is made out of many sub-components and is able to perform a wide variety of rheological test such as shear, stress-relaxation and normal stresses in various measurement modes. In simple terms, it can be said that the machine is VMI’s “mini” extruder. Are you interested in industrial-scale testing redesign and not afraid to get your hands dirty? Then, this project is the perfect fit for you.

It is important for VMI to investigate the possibility of implementing the machine upgrades that could further improve our testing capability.

Department 
RPTT is the Rubber Processing & Tire Technology group. We provide the necessary rubber and tire knowledge for the existing development projects to support the VMI product groups and customers. Additionally, we conduct research projects independently or in collaboration with knowledge institutes/industrial partners. The aim of the research projects in tire and rubber processing topics is to be prepared with the required and state-of-the-art knowledge for future development.

Your responsibilities
A feasibility study/proposal is needed to determine what kind of upgrades must be implemented on the VVM in order for us to obtain more test parameters. Part of the study would allow you to redesign some components of the VVM in order to realize the upgrades in reality. Below you will find a scope of the assignment but this can be adjusted in consultation with you: Investigation of the previous recommendation made by experienced operators and past researches Investigation of the effect of normal forces and die-swell effect Make concept proposals for alternative design solutions Investigation of cost price and one time engineering consequences. Presentation of the results to the stakeholders. Realization of 3D CAD modelling to prototyping
