We are looking for an Investment Officer (IO) at our Regional Office in Costa Rica, responsible for:
Origination, structuring and execution of debt transactions that fit the FI strategy, across different geographies in the LAC region. Leading multi-disciplinary, cross-border deal teams in transaction execution. This includes negotiation and contracting, engaging with both the customer and internal stakeholders to ensure a smooth process. Manage relationships with FI customers through regular communication (digital and in-person). Develop important account plans and country strategies. Coaching Associates and Portfolio Analysts on the job. Providing input and feedback on work performed by Portfolio Analysts. Ensuring clarity on role/task division. Portfolio Management: overall responsibility for quality and timelines of all internal documents related to the designated portfolio. Providing guidance to Associates and Portfolio Analysts on credit reviews, change requests, disbursement memos. Representing our organization at conferences and events, when needed.

Your team
The Financial Institutions department invests in banks and other financial institutions. We aim to create meaningful positive effects for local economies and communities, aligning with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals. The FI team covering Latin America and the Caribbean (FI-LAC) consists of 12 highly motivated individuals from diverse backgrounds. FI LAC has a strong relationship network across the region and a solid market position. The team is responsible for a committed portfolio of ~EUR (including mobilized amounts) to approximately 40 clients. FI LAC helps FMO achieve its goals by offering green lines, attracting third-party funds, leading sector-wide initiatives, and improving client performance on ESG standards.
The Investment Officer will be working out of our Regional Office in San Jose, Costa Rica . FMO established the office in October 2022 as their latest local presence. The local team will have three professionals, including the new Investment Officer, working in a matrix set-up with the Headquarters in The Hague. The Regional Office supports business development, gathers and shares market intelligence, and engages with stakeholders in the LAC region.
The Investment Officer will report to the Regional Representative LAC in San Jose. The officer will also report functionally to the FI-LAC Manager at FMOs Head Office in The Hague.
Your background
Master's degree – preferably finance, economics or business administration. Minimum of 7 years of relevant work experience in financial services in emerging markets. You need to know about debt financing in the FI sector. Proven track record in deal origination, structuring and execution in emerging markets International working experience.Skills
Displays a commercial drive and a strong result orientation. Has a strong business sense and is service/ client oriented. Excellent financial analysis, and problem-solving skills at transaction, client and portfolio management level. Structuring of the investment such that it serves the needs of the client and protects the position of our organization. Can clearly strike the balance between commercial goals and upholding our development mandate, E&S/human rights standards. Leads by example, displaying strong team skills, contributing to team success and to a constructive, positive, and collaborative work environment. Able to bring critical feedback in a constructive fashion in order to improve processes, systems and investment outcomes.
