The Department of Media and Culture Studies is seeking an assistant professor with a profile in Music and Media. We are looking for candidates who can contribute to the research, teaching and public engagement of the department from a specialisation in music and media. You should have a strong profile in the field of media theory and history, European cinema, psychology of audiovisual analysis and/or complementary expertise.

As Assistant Professor in Music and Media, you will teach in the (Dutch), the (English) and/or (English).
Our 3-year undergraduate programme in Musicology focuses on Western music from the Middle Ages to the present (track ‘Historical Musicology’), and on the impact of (digital) media on the production, reception and distribution of music (track ‘Music and Media’). The one-year Applied Musicology graduate programme focuses specifically on the music industry, while the two-year Research MA Musicology focuses more on musicological research.
Ideally, you are also be able to teach in other programmes of the department (e.g. BA Media en Cultuur; MA Film and Television Cultures) and in interdisciplinary contexts within and beyond the Faculty of Humanities.

you have a strong command of the English language, and preferably also the Dutch language at . This is relevant because we offer courses in both languages, and because we work with an international group of students and staff. We can assist in reaching the appropriate language level; if you do not yet have a (UTQ, in Dutch: Basiskwalificatie Onderwijs, BKO), you will obtain this in the first two years of your appointment.

an employment contract for 12 months with the prospect of a permanent employment contract; a working week of 38 hours and a gross monthly salary between € 4.332,- and € 5.929,- in the case of full-time employment (salary scale 11 under the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities (CAO NU); 8% holiday pay and 8.3% year-end bonus; a pension scheme, partially paid parental leave and flexible terms of employment based on the CAO NU.In addition to the laid down in the CAO NU, Utrecht University has a number of schemes and facilities of its own for employees.
