THE JOB
AFP is hiring a first-language Dutch journalist with strong digital investigation skills to tackle mis/disinformation in The Netherlands and Belgium.
The successful candidate will join our global digital investigation team of around 150 journalists and focus on disinformation being shared in Dutch and Flemish.
We are looking for an experienced journalist who can track and navigate disinformation across social media platforms, such as Facebook and Instagram.
They will be required to produce watertight investigations and articles that meet the high editorial standards of AFP, one of the world’s leading news agencies. The journalist also needs to be prepared to support the news team when required.
In an ever-changing media environment, the nature of the job could evolve in line with coverage demands.
The post is based in The Hague but the possibility of Brussels may be considered.
The contract is initially short-term but potentially renewable.
SKILLS REQUIRED The successful candidate will have: native-level Dutch but also good Flemish and English. Some French would be an advantage; an appreciation of the value of combatting disinformation that is shared online; expertise in digital verification techniques and tools, as well as a keen interest in developments in online media such as AI; the discipline and motivation to work independently to produce a regular turnover of stories at a steady pace; a methodical and detailed approach to writing debunks that present evidence clearly and concisely.
